In this special event we’re calling a “fund-raiser hair-raiser” for Great Escape – a truly unique theatrical experience! It’s Conor McPherson’s thrilling and spooky play “The Weir,” which Great Escape will present not at its black-box theater in downtown Marshall but as a “site-specific theater event” inside the “Nancy Boyer” Pub, which sits on private property at the top of Oak Hill at 410 N. Eagle St. in Marshall. We’re being allowed to use this extremely special, intimate space through the generosity of its owner, our longtime friend and supporter Tom Franke.
The action occurs in a bar in rural Ireland. There, the local men swap spooky stories in an attempt to impress a young woman from Dublin, who recently moved into a nearby “haunted” house. However, the tables soon are turned when she spins a yarn of her own!
We believe the unusual location of Oak Hill’s 160-year-old “pub” — which has an Old World atmosphere all its own — is the perfect place to experience this unusual show. Will it be cozy? Yes! Will it be scary? We believe so!
In fact, because this will be a highly exclusive event in an intimate venue, we advise that you plan ahead right now. Get your tickets well in advance! The admission charge for this special production is $30, which includes bar snacks. Alcoholic beverages will be available for additional purchase.
Information about parking at Oak Hill and dealing with its own strange denizens — especially as the witching hour approaches — will be provided to our patrons upon request. Just remember — try not to be too scared!
