“The Laramie Project” is the first Drama Slam of our season, a staged reading that will be given just four exclusive presentations as Great Escape’s June Pride event. The groundbreaking play by Moisés Kaufman and fellow members of the Tectonic Theater Project is about the reaction to the 1998 murder of gay University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyoming. The script draws on hundreds of interviews conducted by the theater company with inhabitants of the town, company members’ own journal entries, and published news reports.
